I have an 88 Blackmax 150 HP Merc OB & use it on a lake where there has been a tremendous amount of weed buildup.
I have my "overheat alarm" going off & have already used a wire to uncrud the line where the pee hole is.
Any suggestions without having to haul the boat out & flush it with ear muffs?

Time for a new water pump impeller and perhaps pump housing. Flushing it with ear muffs will not help.

Only a very small sample of the cooling water goes out the tattletale. All of that has to go through the thermostats first. It's best use is to verify that the engine is warm before the first holeshot of the day.

Overheat alarm indicates SERIOUS overheating. Major mechanical damage is imminent.

Start by servicing the water pumo, and go from there. Be sure you replace all worn parts. An overheating engine tends to have excess heat in the leg and might have a warped water pump housing, for instance.

hope it helps

Peeing corrected-now it's compression

Peeing corrected-now it's compression

Thanks for the input--had water pump replaced-now out of the 6 cylinders, I have 2 shot cylinders-#1 at 0 comp & #4 at 25% comp, the rest running at about 125. Is it worth getting this 21 year old Hog 2 stroke Black Max repaired or looking for a more fuel efficient rebuilt newer? Looking for suggestions!

OUCH!!!
sorry Bro,,,if me and you can afford it,,,repower w/E-Tec 150,,otherwise possible new power head, pistons, rings and labor charges,,,several grand between the 2,,
if your mechanicaly handy pull the head and bad pistons and do an internal inspection,,if the cylinder walls are not trash plunk in the new pistons and rings, head gasket and give it a go,,about a few hours total time on your part,,,check the main bearings for wiggle prior to releasing the existing,,once off any blue markings replace the mains,,just my opinion,,,that motor is a 21 year old Baby Dinosaur that can go forever in salt,,,,,several lobstah guys have them around here and rely on them for their daily $$$
the other cylinders have great compression,,,give it a go...:D
