Hello,
I had dropped my lower unit to replace the impeller/water pump, and so far have been unable to get the upper driveshaft seal out. Is there a trick to getting this thing out. If I can't get it out, could i just put anti seize on the splines and reassemble? I think i've got a good motor here and don't want to screw it up

Usually if you just lower the engine they drop right out. If not, try jiggling a bit and judicius use of the rubber mallet.

There is nothing inside for it to hang up on and do damage so yes, It is acceptable (if not in salt water) to just coat the splines with anti-seize. Most likely, if you do leave it in, it will eventually blow out the exhaust.

Thanks for the reply! I've been tappin and knockin, but not wanting to damage anything in the process. It will be only used in freshwater, so it's off to get some more anti-seize. Thanks again!
