lower units

I have a 55 horse chrysler motor from the early 70's and the lower unit is trashed. I have located a used lower unit but it is from a 35 horse. I know that it will fit, and Michigan's application guide tells me that they use the same size prop. What I need to know is if the gears are the same. I'd hate to buy it and put it on only to find out that it has different gear ratio. Does anybody know?

Re: lower units

Just bumping this up. I need to act fast if I'm gonna get this lower unit because the guy has another interested party. Can someone who has part manuals please look it up to see if the 35 and 55 use the same gears. I'd certainly appreciate it.

Re: lower units

In the late 60s the gear ratio was the same for the 35, 45, and 55 engines. It would be highly likely that this was still the case in the later engines.
