Would you buy trailer tires "crushed" for packing?

Some websites that sell trailer tires, usually the 8-12" rim sizes, list that the tire is "crushed" for shipping. This means that the tire has been compressed into a half circle, then again into a quarter circle, banded and boxed. This saves space, but I wonder what it does to the tire bead and plys? I have seen this when I worked in a small engine shop, often garden tractor tires came that way.

Would you use a crushed for packing tire on your trailer?

That seems like it would be very hard on the tire. No, I would not buy a tire shipped like that. Makes me wonder if your local tire shop might have some shipped that way and you would never know.

I'm sure it can't be good for the tire, especially if it has been that way for a while. I'm sure you can find a place that sells them round..

I had trouble getting some four wheeler tire to seal up after being packed like that. After a few years they started sealing up.

I think I'll skip the crushed tires online.

Checking around I found one local shop that has Load Star tires at a mounted price that is the same as the tire price online with shipping. So I'll stay with a local dealer for the 12" tires.

I have 14" Load Stars on one of my trailers and they've been fine.

When I was looking for new tires for the pontoon trailer, I came across a great deal on tires. Then I saw they were smashed flat for shipping.

The fine print stated "NO RETURNS"

I purchased my tires elsewhere

Tire Discounters has good Carlisle trailer tires for 56$ each when i got them. Mine are 175/80/13 rated at 1350 lbs each. I had them installed for 10$ at Walmart.

They are radials and so far have been great on my trailer. Total weight is about 1850-2000lbs depending on fuel load.

I wouldnt buy tires crushed flat knowingly! My Carlisles dont look like they have ever been anything but round LOL.

FWIW - bought one of these "crushed" tires and it worked out fine. You just have to set it out in the sun all day to get pliable, and then put it on the rim. . . . I never knew the difference.
