We went to the lake today. Pulled up to the area where you prep your boat. All went well. Got the boat lined up at the ramp, had the wife back it into the water, hit the switch, and it turned over, and it wanted to start, but wouldn't. It would just start, and die.

SO, as not to impede the flow of people that wanted to get into the water, I had the wife pull me out. I couldn't imagine what the problem was, because before leaving the house, I started the boat up on muffs.

We pulled to another not so busy ramp, and backed down into the water, when a buddy of mine happened by, and ask what the problem was. SO, I explained.

Turned out to be the kill switch attached to the life jacket lanyard. Flipped it, and it started up fine !!!!!!

Lesson learned !!!

BUT, I didn't tie up the ramp with "my stupidity !!!!!!"

Welcome to the club. Now you'll check the kill switch if it doesn't fire in 2 seconds, just like the rest of us.:D

It happens but cool of you not to crowd the ramp.. next time just launch anyway with ropes and beach the boat and usually the wife will figure it out :D..

Lol I was in that same situation yesterday also.
I installed a new tach on the boat yesterday. When I was done I tried to fire up the boat to see if the gauge worked. The engine would not turn on. I checked all the wires to make sure I did not accidently disconnect one. I tried putting the old tach back on and still nothing. It was starting to get dark at this point and I noticed a red light on the gauges when turning the key. I never noticed this light before so I then new something was not right. Then I noticed the lanyard on the floor. It was a very frustrating hour.
I bet that light was easier to see 21 years ago when the boat was new.

Did the same thing first time out with the boat this year. I was lucky as it was in my driveway, always do a run up before going on the water. Took me an hour to remember I had pulled out the kill switch when winterizing the previous fall. Will not forget again my son will not let me.

You know... we rag on people here for tying up the ramp with acts of selfishness or outright stupidity (and I think it's mostly justified ), but don't let that put you into a panic. What I mean is, Don't let the idea that your holding people up get in the way of being observant and thinking about what's going on.
That said, I bet next time your prepping the boat you'll look for the kill switch before you're at the ramp;)
