I tried looking around, i cant seem to find any information. But has anyone on here ever installed one of theese drives, i.e http://www.simplicity-marine.com/smd1.htm. Interesting as it is i have a 28 foot center console with outboard. I would like a single diesel inboard, and this way seems pretty feasible with this or the arneson drives. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

I really Doubt your transom looks Anything like This....

With an Outboard, or Sterndrive the boat bottom is Straight to the transom,...
Not pocketed like the picture...

Re: Question regarding surface piercing \ pulse drive

If I read the simplicity web site correctly, this can be added aftermarket and attached to the transom?

Wow that would be one heck of a modification....

"Because Simplicity Marine Drives are simi-custom it allows us the ability to fit any transom from 0-16 degree and retrofit to existing sterndrives. The SMD drive will cover the old hole left by most brands of sterndrives, eliminating costly modifications. "

Re: Question regarding surface piercing \ pulse drive

Have you priced a 200 ft-lb torque marine diesel and marine transmission lately??? You do realize that the $5449 is just the adapter unit for the end of your boat, it doesn't include the diesel or transmission?

Twin outboards might start looking like a good deal .....

They have some prices including engine and transmission at the bottom of this page, they start at $19,995 for the little one with a Hurth transmission and the Simplicity drive .....

Re: Question regarding surface piercing \ pulse drive

yes i am aware the 5440 is the surface drive only. i can find 6bt for under 5k. the the marine tranny 2-3k. total 15k. New twin 200's more like 30K. I have 1 250 0x66 now, if i got a counter rotating for 6-7k I know have a boat that cruises 30-35knts @ 17gph per side. I'm just kicking around the idea , i'm more curious how these work in the real world. I know some boats come with them. I was hoping someone on here used one or drove one just so i can get first hand experience if it was worth it (handling, fuel economy, etc etc)
