I just recently got a 1957 7.5 hp Evinrude Fleetwin outboard motor. I don't have any fuel lines for it and am not sure how to connect the fuel lines to the motor? I see there is a spot for a some kind of 3 prong plug, but cant seem to locate that part? Is there a way to connect the fuel to the motor without that plug? Also I am missing a nob on the front of the motor. Its the one on the very bottom. Does anybody know what it is for? Choke or something?

You can connect the fuel and air lines directly to the motor. Is there a connector on the motor side now? If so you'll have to by-pass it and use it as a guide as to where to hook up the fuel lines from the tank. "Fuel" line goes to carb and "air" line goes to manifold. The bottom knob is the high speed adjust on the carb. Once you get it started and in the water, open up the motor and adjust that valve to get optimum speed/performance. Use a pliers to adjust it if it's tight. Once adjusted, tighten the packing nut to keep it from moving. You shouldn't need to adjust it again too often. So you probably don't need the nob.

Yes as Lindy says you can hook the lines up directly. But you would need a pressure tank with the double lines. I take it that motor has not been converted to use a fuel pump? And you did not get a pressure tank with the motor? There have been a fair number of those tanks showing up on ebay lately. So you should be able to find one if you decide to go that route. Be aware that you will pay more for one with a connector than one without. You can convert that motor to use a fuel pump too. It"s generally not as easy or as sanitary as it is on the larger motors but it can be done. A search should reveal a good number of threads on the subject. Good Luck!

Re: 1957 Evinrude Fleetwin fuel line question

Hey thanks guys for your help. I have more questions though. I have just located the female connector that I was looking for so that is good news. Also I do already have a duel hose tank, but it is in pretty ruff shape. I have been trying to clean it out and make it usable again. I noticed there was some kind of fuel filter laying on the bottom of the tank,it is broken now. Does anybody know how to get a new one. A web site or at least a part number would be very helpful. Thanks again guys. There are only a few marinas close to me and they don't want to answer any of my questions. All they say is that its old out dated junk. I tend to disagree. The 1957 Evinrude motor is in near perfect condition. I cant wait to get her fired up!!

Thanks,
Justin

Someone will show up with the answer but I have seen rebuild kits for those tanks. Also if its rusted inside you can get a product called Kreem that will coat the inside of the tank. It works great, I've used it on a bunch of old bikes. You'll also need a manual because there is no support at all (other than here) for older motors. I agree with you, they are great. Take care of them and they'll last forever.
