Merc Steering Keeps Sticking

When I park my boat for a few weeks I can't turn the motor either way and when I store it I leave the steering rod in all the way. What causes this problem? I have a 2002 90 horse 4 stroke

Hi,

There is only one thing that I know of that causes that, rust.
If you have a rotary steering sys you maybe able to turn the cable out
of the steering head and pull it out of the casing to clean and re lube it.
Some of the morse sys have a crimped piece on the head end and will not pull out of the head
It you have a rack system you will have make a cable luber. You should be able to find "how to's" on this forum or at scream n fly.com. Probably other fourms too like http://www.hydrostream.org/ArticleArchives/Luber.htm T-Rex's how to.

You will need to pull the cable out of the engine to do any of these solutions.
