My engine has begun to give me some problems when I run above 4500rpm. After a few minutes, the rpm's drop and the engine shuts off. I can then restart it, but I can only get the engine to reach @3000 rpm and limp home. The overheat buzzer does not sound, but I have verified that it works, so I don't think this is the problem. But what do I know?

Any idea what could be causing this problem? Thanks.

Could be fuel, check your fuel lines they may be old and possible collapse. Do you have a primer bulb....see if that collapses...if so then you have a restriction in your fuel line.

Do you have a water/fuel separator on your boat?

Have you checked the fuel pump?

This may be a fueling problem.

Also, Check Compression!!!!

Re: 96' 112 SPL looses power at WOT

I do have a fuel/water separator which was replaced recently. The RPM's drop quick, from 5000 to dead in about 4 seconds. I have not checked to see if the fule lines or bulb collapse when this occurs, but will do this tomorrow. I tested the fuel pump with a pressure guage (one I bought from Harbor Freight Tools), and it only read .6psi when at idol and went a bit lower when run up to 4500 rpm's. Therefore I bought a new fuel pump to be installed tonight. Hopefull this will solve the problem. I will also check my compression on all cylinders. Thanks for your advice/suggestions and please continue to follow this post, in the event this does not solve my problem. Thanks.

Well I replaced the fuel pump and this did not resolve the problem. Now, I have a very difficult time starting th engine, and once it starts, I can achieve high rpm's while in neutral, however under load, if dies out. I was able to keep the engine running for a short period of time, however I could not get the rpm's above 3500 or so.

I will check compression tonight, but could this be a carbureator problem?
