Volvo penta and mercruiser bearing alignment tool?

Do any of you guys know if the gimbal bearing alignment tool for mercruiser will fit ok for volvo penta? The guy at the local boat shop says he has the mercruiser one (rental) but is not sure if it will fit the coupler for volvo penta or is it possible to do the alignment with the mercruiser tool?

Let's just say it works on SOME models, not all. What model do you have?

It's a 96 Four Winns Horizon 190.

Hate to tell you this, but if you have an SX or DP-S style drive, then yes, they are the same.

That tells us nothing of your engine or drive, only about the boat.

Sorry about that, it's a Volvo 5.0FL with a Volvo Penta Cobra SX drive. So I'm assuming it's safe to rent the (mercruiser) alignment tool and it should work without a problem.
