Volvo 3.0 gs low cylinder pressure

First time poster needs help. 3.0 gs model 302cmlkd serial # t01300489 (i could not locate a match on the volvo site. After a few hours on the lake it started running real rough and would not get over 1000 rpm. Brought it to a shop and they check the compression. 1,3 and 4 were 170-175. #2 was 90 the first time and 120 the second. They suspect that a valve is bad/sticking (they said they say a flash out of the carb when they started it). I also noted the carb dirty and oilly before I brought it in.

1: How can I tell if it is really a valve and not something else?
2: How hard is it to do a valve job(they said they do not do that kind of work and would take it to an automotive shop)?
3: What is the best repair manual to get?
4: Best place to get parts?
5: If I get it done what is a resonable price?

That was the last of OMC. OMC and Volvo did a Joint Venture, in 98 OMC sold out completely to Volvo. You have what is exactly the same as a Volvo LK model (notice the LK in your model #)

It's called a leakdown test. Google it.

2: How hard is it to do a valve job(they said they do not do that kind of work and would take it to an automotive shop)?

You have to have the equipment to do the heads and valves. Or find a machine shop to do them. The rest is taking the heads off the engine and putting them back on.

3: What is the best repair manual to get?

OEM is the only way to go. Here is a link to the Volvo version. Same thing, just says Volvo instead of OMC

Here at iboats, go to the top of this thread and click on Volvo parts. Remember LK model.
IF iboats doesn't have it, try your local VP dealer.

If you don't like their price, try elsewhere. There aren't any dealers that will beat the prices of what forums suggest.

I don't go there, like I said, ask the people that will do the work. They will probably not be in the range of what people on these forums think it should be. Those here think everything should be cheap, fast, and perfect. Heavy on the CHEAP.

Update: Turns out to be worn lobes on the crank... Some how (carb or fuel pump) gas got into my oil? I was quoted about 1K if nothing else is wrong.
