about 6 am, it was great. testing my buddies boat out. We headed north thru the narrows, the view was awesome with the sun coming up over the mountains and everything. to me, on a busy weekend, that place could be really crazy it seemed. Launch ramps seemed less than desirable too. but once your out of the mile-long no wake zone, its all good. just wanted to share, since most of you were working and I got to slip away for a few hours hahahaaha.:D

red; first is is red-one or re-done? just thinking about calling the guys at the marina and checking into a slip for next winter but just can't get the smell of those rotting mussels out of my mind. when we were fueling at calvill in may i cut around the slips in the narrow spot just north of the slips and hit one of those big concrete anchors they sink

any way i was going to pm you and ask how it looks a echo bay. last year when i went to launch the water was green from a algae bloom and i couldn't see the bottom and the ramp was so flat you had to really get a long way out to launch.

any better after they moved the marina out?

might end up at powell this winter

I am partial to Echo bay. Been going there for so long now it just feels comfortable. The ramps are fine, I still dont even get the axle of my truck wet when launching. The closer to the launching dock the better the ramp is. The ramp at calville was horrible, but it was nice to see different sights out there.

Yeah the ramp gave me trouble too . . . Did you get to Wishing Well redone?

Man, those concrete blocks are murder . . . At Callville, I was staring at all of the junk left behind by a Marina as it goes out. Old dock carts that must've gone over, dock steps, sunk boats, engines, etc. etc. It's odd to me that the Park Service doesn't require them to do a better clean-up job. I typically don't like a lot of Gov't oversight on much of anything, but it is a National Recreation area and the "Concessionaires" get "selected" to operate businesses that really are a monopoly, so that bugs me . . . Las Vegas Bay and Lake Mead Marina are not that bad at all. Callville is a mess.

we made it out to the upper basin, so we must have gone past wishing well. we didnt have any charts or anything with us, it was a trial cruise after my buddies boat came back from the shop. anything distinguishing about wishing well so we know if we are there next time? I agree, there should be some more clean-up regulations there. parking looks like it sucks on a big weekend also.

Wishing Well is the last significant large cove on the south side as you approach the Narrows from Callville. There are almost always boats floating and/or anchored in the main cove. You have to go all of the way to the back to even see the entrance to the "well" in the very left back corner. Most people chicken out at the entrance, but it is easy to keep your boat safe. Just position a couple of people to push off the walls, and I bump her in gear every few feet just to keep moving. It's not as tight as I make it sound, but it does freak some people out.

There is about 60 ft. of water at the entrance and then around 40 when you make the quick right. I have been in there at every lake level and it is always impressive, but especially so now as there is an additional 120 ft. of sheer wall. If the water goes down another 40 ft. we will lose the total isolation after the right turn . . .

This pic (July '08) is from the inside looking back towards the entrance which is the shadow at the upper left corner of the left boat's bimini.

Wow..Great picture..I was at Mead last week fishing in Vegas wash and there were some rock ledges almost exposed that were not marked...One had 5 or 6 spots you could see where props hit it...Just be real careful....Stay to the middle of the lake and head straight in on the coves slowly...Jim..

we are going out again this saturday...i was headed for echo bay but just got talked into calville again. Nobody wants to make the extra drive to echo i guess. if only the ramp had better provisions i wouldnt mind so much. i wonder if its because echo bay is a seven crowns resort, and calville is a forever resort i believe?

i did notice.....had probably less than 10 of the grand sierra, thats the big boy with the penthouse on top. They had a 50 percent off houseboat rental deal, but i found out the last weekend they were offering it. woulda been sweet.
