I went out on the Ohio River yesterday with my fishing buddy and when I backed my boat off the trailer the engine died. Buddy was already parking my rig in the lot so I just lowered my trolling motor and proceeded to the dock.

When I engaged the key, nothing happened. So I look in the battery compartment and all the connections were tight. I then look and made sure the kill switch was attached.

The engine died while I was in reverse, backing off the trailer.

I NEVER PUT THE THROTTLE BACK IN NEUTRAL when trying to restart.
I placed the throttle back in neutral and the engine fired right up.

We then proceeded to catch the heck out of the catfish population on the Ohio!!!!!

That is the kind of mistake you need if you are going to make one !!!
Not the expensive kind !!!

It gets expensive, in lost time and pride, when you take those mistakes to a mechanic!

I had the same thing happen in my old 14' jetboat several years ago. It stalled while backing from the dock and wouldn't restart without the throttle back to neutral. I was ready to jump overboard and swim the boat back to the dock when I noticed the problem...

They don't restart after the dog pulls the kill lanyard off and it is not the first thing you look at.
Now, if ever the boat won't refire, it is the first thing I look at. The gear shifter next.

Funny how, probably, a lot of problems can be fixed without ever leaving the helm:rolleyes:

I haven't eaten them yet, but will have a fish fry soon with my friends. If I get side affects, I want everyone else to have them too.:D

I'll eat Ohio river cats about twice a year so I figure I'm not getting that many pollutants in my body.

The fish we kept were all in the 5 to 7 pound range so I figure they were fairly young and I always cut out the fat and "yellow" portions of the filets. If a filet looks funny I'll discard it.
