Ill try this again.I wasnt paying attention the first time and posted on the wrong place.Sorry everybody.I have a 1988 Glastron with a 3.0 mercruiser and was driving across the lake and it died.Getting gas and fire but wont start. It didnt cut out or anything just made a pop noise and died.Think it could be the timing chain?

Re: Died and now it wont start.

Could be a lot of things. Timing chain is one of them, but it's not likely. It didn't break or you wouldn't be getting spark (distributer drives off the cam - wouldn't be turning if chain was broken), it's possible it jumped but not real common.

You need fuel, air, compression, and a spark at approximately the correct time for an engine to run. We'll assume you're getting air, you say you're getting fuel and spark. Only questions left are do you have compression and when is the spark occuring? Do you have a timing light and compression gauge?

Sorry, it's a 4 cylinder, wasn't paying attention! See, told you it was not likely a timing chain problem ....... :)

It turns over fine. Checked and gas is not a problem and neither is fire. Compression is #1-80,#2-65,#3-70,#4-110.Timming is 4 degress.Think mabey time for a new long block?

Re: Died and now it wont start.

I paid $2300 on ebay for the boat and used it 3 full seasons and I dont think its worth putting a new motor in so I might just sell it.I dont have a clue why it wont start and am tired of working on it. Thanks for the help everyone.
