Hi,I'm looking at a 1988 Starcraft Islander 22' The guy is selling it do to a soft transom.I have replaced a transom on a smaller aluminum boat but was wondering how hard it is on a 22' starcraft. He said the motor is off the boat and would sell it for 800 bucks with the trailer. Is this a hard job to do and how much money do you think I could spend doing this project.

Re: Starcraft needs transom

The older Starcraft boats were pretty easy to do, but I can't speak for the later stuff. I know the one's built in the mid 1990's required all but total splashwell removal but the 60's and 70's and maybe a bit later were a lot easier. A few good pics of the transom and splash well might help.

Do a search in the restoration forum. Can't swing a cat without hitting a Starcraft there. Actually if you open the forum the 1/2 the post will be starcraft related. Great boats and there is a ton of info and people to help you through it. I'd go for it. Aluminum boats are simple and straightforward.
