I have a 2007 bayliner 185, Merc 3.0 I/O

Hey there, so last week we were on holidays on the lake. I started to notice the Gear Oil Resovior getting low, i added some gear oil and within a few hours it was empty again and the oil was pooling under the engine. I cannot see any oil dripping from the hose where it makes the 90' into the transom, what else could be the issue (TRANSOM SEAL ??). Theres no oil leaking into the water just into the engine compartment????? Need some advise please
Thanks
Jay

Jay, Sounds like you are leaking oil into the bellows. It is most likely the o-ring just inside of the upper gear case. I had the same problem on mine. It is a pretty easy fix. Just have to take the drive off, take the retainer nut off, slide out the bearings and replace the o-ring. You will need the special wrench to take off the retainer nut. The o-ring is only about 4 dollars. Maybe some else can tell us if this sounds like the correct fix.

Thanks for the advise, that sounds like a reasonable fix, as its a 2007 with approx 50hrs. I'll be pulling apart this week
Thanks again

The olny place where it looks like it could leak is at the 90' fitting, and it appears that its okay, there's no oil there and still some dust right under the fitting, its about 4 inches from the where the oil is pooling under the output shaft ??? does this sound right??

Ayuh,... It sounds like the input shaft Seal is Bad, leaking oil into the bellows, which is leaking into the motor bay...
