I just picked up a sea king 5H I think it was made in 76 . Anyhow took the boat out and she worked fine and I turned it off for a bit just to drift and then when I turned it back on it was in nuetral but it was idling high and I put it into gear without taking the idle down and It made a noise and well .... lets just say thank God for ores . Engine hums right along but boat does not go. I know alot about car , motorcycles , lawn mowers but have never messed with boat motors . Anyone thank they can steer me in the right direction ? The model # is K5504106 A the serial is 1250371 .

Re: Man I screwed up ...

I just removed the cotter pin and pulled the prop off and there was a small rod that fell out that was in 3 pieces ( that was inside the prop ) . Is that the pin you guys were talking about ? If so how do I go about replacing it ? Can I just take the prop in and they can just match that to the pin size ? Or do I have to have the make and model for it ? I have the serial and model in the first post but have no idea what year it is. Boy Im glad its just a pin ;) ( do people shear pins all the time ? ) Thanks -- I called a local shop and they said its and old montgomery ward motor and dont have a pin for me. Where on earth would you go to find something that old ?

Motor was built by Clinton out of business since the 80s uses a 5/32 X 1 3/16
brass pin.you just had a typical Clinton outing.Seldom run the same way twice.Hopefully with some tinkering it will perform for you.

go to the hardware store like Ace, Lowes, Home Depot and buy a section of an 1/8" or 3/6" brass rod and cut(with a hacksaw) a bunch of those shear pins and keep them in the boat for future use. those pins really protect the motor from damage when/if you hit a log or a stump. easy fix! Good Luck!
