I have twin 2004 yamaha hpdi outboards on a 26 proline and the counter rotater lower unit needs some repair as it was run low on oil. I can't pull the bearing carrier out of the housing. I've already pulled a bolt in half with a puller and now I'm trying to pull the shaft with a homemade rigging using the prop nut to pull the complete unit out but the shaft keeps turning and I have no way of holding it back while I tighten the nut. Is there anything I'm missing. If I pull anymore hair out my head I'll be balded.

make sure the shift shaft is removed.
the carrier and prop shaft come out as a unit.
you cannot use a regular puller and puller arms.
I use the double threaded adapther to fit the prop nut threads on one side and my slide hammer on the other and some oxy/acytylene.
fire is goooood.

Re: 04 Yamy 300 Hpdi Lower Unit Repair

Thanks Rodbolt I heated the housing with a propane torch and got it to move a little guess I will pull out the old trusty acetaline liquid wrench and give it another try. But first I am calling the insurance to see if it is covered. It had fishing line in the mainshaft seals and lost the oil ruined the input shaft thrust collar on top and not sure what else. Any suggestions on where I can get a good rebuilt lower unit if insurance covers this. Thanks
