Bypassing wiring harness

I just bought a 1989 25 mariner EL -25 Longshaft at a sale cheap. But no controls (no tiller either). I want to start the thing before I go looking to invest in controls. Is there a way to by-pass the wires for the control box (elec start) and battery , so I test start it?- it has a normal pull starter. The wiring harness is a 7 pin (hex with one in center). also any sources for used controls if it works?

Disconnect the 2 yellow alternator wires and tape them off, then just rope start the engine
