94 Mec 115 4 cyl *No Juice past Stator*

I inherited a boat with a 1994 Mercury 115 cylinder outboard. The engine is not getting any spark to the plugs. Tracing the wires, I got juice going into the stator (red stator) but nothing coming out of the trigger. I tested the stator and the trigger with an ohm gauge and everything seems to be with in specs.

What could be the problem? Why don't I have any juice coming out of the trigger?

Please help!!!!!!!

The trigger doesn't generate any significant amount of "juice". It provides a signal to the switchbox so the switchbox knows the appropriate time to send a spark to any particular cylinder.

If you have tested both stator and trigger with an meter and the ohm values fall within the specifications for your motor, the most likely cause of "no spark" is a bad switchbox.

One other thing to check is a bad "kill" circuit. Disconnect from the switchbox the black wire with yellow stripe. This wire grounds out the switchbox to kill spark.

Check for spark after you disconnect the kill wire. If you now have spark, either your ign switch or lanyard-kill switch (if you have one of those) is bad, or you have a bare wire to ground somewhere in the harness.

Another thing to check for on the kill circuit is voltage. Turn ign to "Off" then check for voltage to ground (with the wire still disconnected). Then turn ign to "On" and check again. If you find any voltage at all on the kill wire, something is wrong (probably bad switch) and you need to fix this before installing a new switchbox, or the voltage problem could blow out the new box.

One last thing you may not have tried is to disconnect the rectifier (one of the yellow leads going from the stator to the rectifier/regulator assy. If you now have spark, replace the recitifier/regulator assy. Note, don't run the motor with the rectifier disconnected, you could damage the stator. Just cranking speed with all 4 plugs removed, plugs reinserted into spark plug boots & grounded to the block.

HTH & let us know what you find............ed

Thanks emckelvy,

I will give your advise a try. My next step was going to be the switchbox but I will try your tests with the kill circuit and let you know.

Thanks again......

Well I got it started!!!!!!

I disconnected the 2 black with yellow strip wires off the switchbox and it fired right up. Through process of elimination I narrowed it down to the blk w/ yellow strip wire that runs to some sort of voltage regulator box (Unsure what it is) underneath the main wiring harness. The other blk w/ yell wire runs to the main harness up to the kill swith. Tested the kill swith and it works great.

The question is what is the other blk w/ yell wire running to and what is it's purpose. Thinking it may be some sort of safety shut down switch.

Any info will help.

Thanks Corey

If I just disconnect the black w/yellow strip wire will it cause any problems with the engine.

Looking in a parts break down for the engine, I can not find a rev limiter listed. Does anyone have a part #.

Thanks Corey
