allright I have a 86 50elj I got with a pontoon boat..motor looks almost new but is about to drive me crazy...got a used 703 a control to replace damaged one on boat..every thing hooked up fine control is smooth..turn key ..nothing..went to engine, 10amp fuse blown..I change ..nothing I have fire to one side of relay assy, bought new battery to make sure it was out of the problem..went to control had fire to some wires on pigtails for tac ect..pulled kill plunger out got a click back at engine half a dozen times and then nothing..also no fire to pigtails...changed kill switch out of old controls..
it tested on ommeter open when pulled back...old switch tested closed when pulled...so I assume switch is bad...still nothing..my question is there a fuse I am missing, also how to test relay assy or anything else to cure this thing.....

Re: yamaha no turn over

do a forum search on yamaha wire colors.
its quite possible your new used box is wired wrong.
should not have a click at the engine when the stop lanyard is removed.
blown fuses indicate short circuits.
also double check with your manual the fuse size, most were 20 amp.
switch tests are correct for the stop lanyard.
i heartily suggest some reading time and some wiring diagram study BEFORE you melt something.
and double check that fuse again, you have most likly blown it again.

Re: yamaha no turn over

rodbolt....thanks for info it got me thinking ....I started runnung test light the other way...the fuse was blown when I got the motor...I check it before I ever put battery in...I thought it was 20 amp also but it was 10amp...also found factory sealed spare and it was 10 amp also..the fuse holder we loose it just depended which way it fell as to connect or not...put new fuse holder on and got power to control...turn switch got same click as before...the click is from the relay assy..test light showed power to starter for the first time...Im charging new battery now to make sure it is good and charged...if that does not do it ..Im looking at starter....any thoughts there ????
