check for rot most other things seem to fall into place. Only you can answer whether its worth anything to you but dont expect to get the time/money you put in back out of it.

Re: Worth it??

Not only new to this forum but I'm also new to boating in general. I just purchased a 76 glastron v184. (250 hours)seems to be in good shape. what do i need to look for and is it even worth putting my money into?

Sorry to be blunt but if your asking the question if it's worth putting money into, then why did you buy it?

As far as the hull, xxturbo is correct. Look for rot in the deck, stringers and transom. If you find rot anywhere, the likelyhood is good that all three will need replaced.

do people fix these up or has anyone fixed one up?

Absolutely people do! You might want to visit classicglastron.com which is specifically devoted to (like the name says) classic glastrons!

There are original sales brochures there as well. iboats has a glastron forum that is very useful as well.

Re: Worth it??

I really like the boat, we took it to the lake today, had a blast. I was just wondering if this boat (1976 glastron) was a boat that was worth my time and money or if i was going to run into parts locating problems or anything that would make it impossible to complete
You can do a search up at the top to see if anyone has done a restoration on a 76 Glastron.

As was said earlier, the worth of your time and money is dependant upon what you spend and what you expect to get out of it! If you are looking for a hard working, sometimes pain-staking yet rewarding project that the family can enjoy for years to come, then this project is for you. If you think you can rehab a boat and flip for profit, then it probably isn't.

As for parts availability, it depends on what you are looking for. People restore boats all the time and don't usually have problems locating items unless they are looking for something old and original or very specific. My family owns a Glastron and it's a well built boat and depending on the model, is a highly sought after boat. Luckily, Glastron is still in existance so you might be lucky to find Glastron specific items of need from the factory.

Not sure if that helps any?

Re: Worth it??

cool...... It does have some floor rot just in front of the engine cover but other than that seems to be ok , I'll tear into it alittle more . Definitely going to be worth the time. Thanks for your help

As i've learned(and many others),where there's a little rot there's MUCH more hiding! If i were you i'd enjoy the boat for this year and rip it apart over the winter.(as longs as it's safe!)Good luck with it,and welcome!
