Spare trailer tire locked?

Hi,

Just got a spare tire for my trailer. Was wondering, how many of you have had any issue with any theft of said spare? I thought about buying a lock but looking at the bracket, if someone wants it, they will take it...just unbolt the whole assembly. Just wondering if I need something to keep the honest people honest.

Spare tirenlock, and wheel locks on the 4 wheels on the trailer and the tow vehicle.
It won't stop a pro, however, pros don't steal tires. They take teh whole trailer. I have enough locks on the trailer/vehicle so the bad guys will give up as this is an instrument of convieniance. They will go to the next trailer which isn't locked as well and take theirs.

I had a spare tire stolen off my trailer. I now have a lock on the new tire.

I had someone try to take my spare at the marina but they could not get the cable cut before either giving up or getting caught,got the 2 lug nuts off.

i just use a steel braided coated cable, run it thru the rim a few times, and around the frame a few times and thats about all you can do. if they want it bad enough they will get it. i have an old spare that does not look appealing, maybe that would help too. a good tire on an old rim...

i figure the spare is to get me out of tight spot know more so i just have old used tire i bought on a old rim no locks
it is also mounted so it is inconvenient to get to when the boat is on trailer

If you use a u-bolt around the frame (I had to lengthen the u-bolt with some couplers, but there's no way to get to them with the tire on it) as a tire mount, you can get a cheap lock set-up for about $10. It's a couple of pieces of angle with the stud threads on one side, and a hole for a lock on the other side. Good insurance to help make sure it's there if you need it.

Hi, After a day of fun, I returned to the ramp to find my hub caps on the ground. My tires ok. The trailer next to mine (tandem) sitting on the ground all four tires and rims gone. Don't know how he got home.The only difference mine had locks on all five.My wife thought I was nuts for locking them. She now asks if everything is locked when we go out If they want it they will take it, I just make it a little harder so they move on to an easier target.

This is why we need to start cutting off peoples hands for theft. This crap needs to stop.

I had gooten a set of 2 wheel lock. Thought I would use that instead of the bolt...but the mount bolts are smaller than on the wheel. I was going to return them..but now I am going to put them on the trailer instead. I will get a lock for the spare now. Sound like my instinct is correct.

Spare is locked to the holder with a Master lock and I run a cable lock around the trailer through the spare. I am getting some locking lugs ASAP. I use the two Master locks on my trailer on my snowmobile trailer in the winter...double duty.
