Just bought a Ranger 375-V that has a Hot Foot -
Any pro & con remarks are welcome
This is my first to try & a little unsure of it, it'll be next weekend before i get to try it out so i guess i'm asking those who have experence with them to tell me what to exspect & give some advice
Thanks in advance :)

The pro side is you get to keep both hands on the steering wheel while running. The con side is most people that use them run there boats hard. Some think there response is faster with the hot foot for throttle up and down. I saw no difference when i used one.

Re: Hot Foot- Pros/Cons

I'll be anxiously awaiting replies to Boss's thread as well. I've begun repair/restoration of a '79 Checkmate and the previous owner put in a hot-foot (of course he didn't realize he was putting the mounting screws into the balsa core and ran them all the way through the hull ) He obviously wasn't enough of a craftsman to even glass in a small mounting block. I'm deciding whether to go to the effort to properly re-mount it or just chuck it.

Anyway, I've never driven a boat with a foot throttle before and kind of think I won't like it. For one thing, if I want to stand up or kneel while I'm docking for a better view it would be difficult with the hot-foot. Besides, I've got hundred of hours flying airplanes so a hand throttle just feels natural to me (and with the Checkmate I'll usually be going fast enough that it would be difficult to drink a soda and drive the boat at the same time anyway, thus no need for a free hand).
