Naming a no-name boat?

Looking at buying another used boat. Never named one before but I plan on naming this one. I know the procedure for renaming, but is there one for it's first name? Does it make a difference if it's older and has been sailing without a name? Thanks in advance, I don't need any bad mojo by messing this up!

I hope there isn't a procedure! Mine was not named by the previous owner. Since it's a theft recovery, I'm naming it Sabotage.

Hopefully the name alone won't bring me any bad luck. :D

Steps to determining a boat name.

1) Put her in the water.

2) Host a kick *** party onboard. Of course this means liberal amounts of libations for everyone. (like that needed to be said)

3) Enjoy the BBQ. Get more grog. Let time work it's magic.

4) By 8 bells you should have several really great names to choose from.

5) Host a christening. More grog. Have DP (designated painter) stand by with steady hand. With time and spirits you'll KNOW her new name. Pipe the DP to their station.

Re: Naming a no-name boat?

That's exactly how my first boat was named. It was a Four Winns. A drunk guy at the Maiden Voyage Party looked at the manufacturer's logo and said, "Four Winns -- No Losses."

The current boat isn't a Four Winns, but the name stuck: It's called No Losses III.

The previous owner of No Losses III took his finac? to look at the boat when they were interested in buying. He then took her to Las Vegas to propose. He asked her to marry him and said, "You can have a really nice ring, or you can have a cheap ring and the boat."

She chose the boat. They named it "Cathy's Ring".

Sorta what I was thinking but you can't be too sure. Don't need any bad vibes on the water. Off we go! Thanks!
