Re: XP camera wizard
Hmm here's the
driver page. I don't see it listed. Im confident this means the system uses "native" windows drivers. The good thing about that is this. Normally you can just remove the device in device manager, reboot, and it will install the drivers (usually with little or no input require from the user). The trick is knowing which device(s) to remove from device manager.
I just happen to have a Compaq Presario sitting next to me (I'm fixing it for a friend). The card reader is a USB device. It connects to the motherboard via a round grey cable (just like the USB ports on the front do).
I can't get much more info from this system because no operating system is installed at the moment (wating for a factory restore disc).
A couple things come to mind. Do you have any other USB devices connected. Printer, thumb drive, etc... That would tell you if no usb device will work or if it's just the card reader. If no USB device will work, you can try removing and reinstalling the USB controller itself. If not, it would appear the problem is with the card reader. There's still the problem of identifying which device the card reader is.
You may be able to deduce that information by taking a written inventory of the devices listed under USB. Then shut down the computer and unplug the card reader from the motherboard. When you restart the computer and go back into the device manager you'll probably see one or two things. There will be some exclamation points on some devices under USB or you'll just have devices that dissapeared.
If you want to agressively attack the problem you can just delete the whole USB "tree" and reboot. You MAY be required to reinstall drivers for any other USB conneted drivers after you do that (printers, scanner, web cam, etc...).
