Should I pull the trigger on this boat? **pics**

Ok, I think Im ready to purchase this boat but unlike my last boat purchase (that went poorly for me) I think I've learned more about what I want in a boat and the process to go through - like asking for advice here... And thanks to those that have already chimed in on some of my other questions.

Boat details - 1996 Chris Craft 23 Foot with Cuddy. Has a 5.8efi with Volvo duoprop setup. Motor has 270 hours. Has bimini tops, full camper cover, stove. Always been in fresh water. Comes with an alum trailer, however only has emergency drum brakes so I would need to add trailer brakes for safer towing.
Normal maintenance has been done - tune up, filters, new alternator. Other than that owner hasent had to fix anything on the motor. Said two years ago he had the drive resealed, dont know if bellows were done then too but will find out. By the look of the boat and the owners house / cars, etc he takes pride in his stuff from what I could see.

We settled on a price of 9k for boat and trailer. From my research and the looks and sound of the boat, it seems like a fair deal to me. I have a survey lined up for this week to make sure everything checks out.

Does anyone think this is not a good deal providing a good survey? I couldnt find any similiar boats in my area to compare to. I know the market will see more boats in the coming weeks so I didnt want to overpay... Any advice is appreciated.

Man that is a REALLY nice boat.

I can't say I know much about boat values but that sounds like a pretty good deal to me and I am a cheapskate.

It is a Chris Craft and it sounds like you are covering all the bases, if it is what you want and the survey comes back good pull away!

That does seem like a good price. The only question I have is regarding the motor. You say it is a 5.8L...so is that a Ford 351? I guess I didn't realize that Volvo ever used that motor.

Yup, I guess they did. A quick google search does return some hits. It must be a carry over from the OMC/VP "joint venture". Interesting.

If it has received much care and attention over the years then I'd say it's a good price. Doesn't seem crazy to me. Note if you keep looking you will always find a comparable boat at a lower price... just remember that doesn't mean it's in as good a shape as yours!

Question though: I've always wondered what people do with such a small cuddy...

Looks very nice and sounds like a very good price, but I just don't understand that small of a cabin. I would go for an open bow on that size boat, but that's just my opinion. Make sure you have a vehicle capable of towing the weight of that boat and trailer combo.

thanks for the comments. I hear ya on the size of the cabin, I think thats why it hasnt sold yet and was a concern of mine. I actually posted that question on the forum...is a 23 ft cuddy a waste of space? But based on how we'll use it, me, wife and 2yr old...it makes sense for us for at least a few years.

Pull the trigger, this looks like a ripping deal, I wouldn?t pass it up. :pIn fact maybe you should let me know where to find it first, I?ll check it out for you.:D haha

Just don?t tell my family, they?ll want to go boating with you instead of with me on my 1990 120 horse Bayliner.

GOOD FISHING TO YOU ALL

Wow that is a sweet boat, sounds like a good deal too. Anything like that here would be over $18K. I think the idea of the small cuddy is for making babies with room for two, sounds like you have a reason to have another!:D

C'mon honey lets go try out the boat...I know its in the driveway and its after midnight...duh?

It's a great deal.

For those of you who don't have a wife & young child, you wouldn't understand how important it is to have a cuddy -- even a small one. It's just enough room for a porta-pottie. ;)

Seems like a screaming deal to me. And I've seen much smaller cuddies.

Sure looks like a very nice boat from the pics. Be sure to get a compression check done on that Ford 351 engine. If survey checks out, and engine doesn't have any oil use issues, which many 351s do, then it sounds like a good deal. Remember that at this time, it is a "buyers market". Don't be afraid to offer considerably less. JMO, Mike.

My wife and I get plenty of use out of our "tiny" cuddy :D
I'm 250 and 6'2" and we both fit in there comfortably, and there is a porta potty down below for the ladies. 90% of the time it's just us two, and a bow rider would be worthless to us. Our boat is a Nova 210, by todays standards it's a 23' measuring from swim platform to bow.

Even handling an anchor is not a problem.

Update-

Well......we bought it...

Everything checked out and the boat ran awesome. Im already scoping out where to mount the smart tabs :) I hope to pick her up tomorrow as I had to get some of the trailer wiring straigtened out on my tow vehicle. Thanks for everyone's comments. As soon as I get it home I'll take some better pics and post.
