Hi again,
In anticipation of receiving my new exhaust gaskets tomorrow, I pulled the exhaust cover off this morning... sure enough, there was water in the cylinder chamber, so I guess that was the problem... whew! I was afraid of a cracked block.
Anyway, I have cleaned all the mating surfaces and currently have the outer plate soaking in vinegar to clean out the mineral deposits (hope vinegar won't hurt the aluminum, lol).
Is there anything else I should do? I don't particularly want to put permatex on anything, tho I will put anti-seize on the bolt threads when I put it all together.
I have the bolt tightening pattern in my manual... should I do the same as with the head gasket? Run 'til warm, back off and re-torque? Or just torque it down and re-tighten after 10 hours like the manual says?
Thanks again for all your help, folks! This forum is great.
