4.3 mercruiser blew up

My 4.3 blew up after hitting something under water. it shut it down. It did not strip my gears but did bend my prop shaft. is it possible that is impact related?

the engine blew up. it threw 4 of six rods and the side of the block will come off in my hand if i remove the oil pan and timing chain cover

Im strugelling with the idea of hitting something in the water that can jolt the engine enough to toss out the rods, but only be the porp shaft. and not rip the out drive apart too.
I guess anything is possible tho.

Ayuh,.... Me too,.... It sounds Beat,+ Abused....

I was on-board a boat/ 4.3l that broke the crankshaft on impact,...
But the drive had an Inch Hole in it's nose too...

Sounds like you may have had more than one thing going on there. I have a hard time thinking a prop strike would throw the rods as well. We hit a sunken island on a reservoir that had no bouys or markings at wot. the hydraulics gave and the drive shot water 50 ft in the air. No issues with the motor though. Was the oil pressure and temp within range while running? Any engine noise prior to the hit? Have to be thinkin it was ready to go and the hit was just the straw that broke the camels back....

yes i have insurance they want to pay to replace prop shaft and part of lower unit but nothing else

Couldn't it over rev with less that enough prop attached?

If so It might dislodge some parts.

could have been but the boat was always serviced and had oil changed twice a season. the boat was out every weekend since i had it. during the summer that is. no funny noises , it held between 40 & 60 psi on oil pressure and never ran hot. like i said it was a first for me and i maintain my toys regularly.
