It appears (sadly) I bought a 1983 20' Ranger BassBoat with a 1977 175HP Johnson engine that is crap
I have a good (I hope) 1986 110HP Johnson -
My question is is the 110 enough motor for this big a boat if i end up havig to use it
Don't care if it goes 60MPH, just want enough motor

It should get it on plane ok, but sure it will be slower. Can't repair the 175?

That should do fine.
My 85 hp pushes my 16'er with 4 people and a 4 person towable great.

Re: HP/Boat Size Question

I'm sure it could be but summer & money are fast running out :(

I hear that, I can touch 43gps with my 16' BR and 85 Force and its not bad in that little boat. They never are fast enough of course, lol. My 17' BR ran around 50 with a 115hp, but was a larger boat inside and no pad.

I think the 115 would be pretty underpowered on a 20 ft boat. You can try lower pitched props to get into normal operating range but I'd bet your top end will only be 25-30 mph. ( My WAG)

I?m 6?2? 230# and my 19? 10? Bayliner cuddy with a 120 horse force pulls me out of the water on skis and does good. Not a powerhouse, but I bet you?ll be happy.

Thanks to all, I hate to use the 110 as its on my little deck boat project but when cash & fishing time runs short you have to make choices i guess

Re: HP/Boat Size Question

well if you have the time and it seems like you love to tinker just use the 110 for the time being and look into the 175 over the winter.....or part it out and invest in one that you can live with...thats what i would do but i love having a pile of projects and empty pockets haha...
