Please help, On a recent trip with my 89 capri 125 force, I came to a stop and the engine died. Would not turn over. Checked battery volatge battery had plenty of juice. As Im trying to crank the engine, I realize that as the motor cranks it turns the steering wheel to lock and then stops cranking. Is there a bearing below the engine that may have siezed with the crankshaft and part of the steering? Please help this L-drive has been a nightmare and I just got it to quit overheating, dont want to replace engine, thanks.

Re: Weird

Sounds to me like something in the lower unit has seized. When you put the throttle into neutral, can you spin the propeller? You should be able to spin it with one finger while in neutral.

Oh yeah prop spins free as can be. Would it be more worth while to pull lower unit out or power head?

Re: Weird

Could be any one of the bearings from lower unit gears or the midshaft gears. Spinning the prop while in neutral only shows that the prop shaft is free. Put it in gear and try to spin it. You should be able to turn it against compression with some difficulty. If you can not turn it at all-- other than the normal clearance between the drive dogs-- then something in the outdrive has seized. At that point, drop the lower unit. and try to crank the engine. If it now cranks, the lower is seized. if not, the mid shaft is seized .
