Your stringers are in, now you have to somehow find a way to cut your plywood to match perfectly with the sides of your hull. You can try cardboard, but that is flimsy and cuts are difficult to keep accurate. A great alternative is pink insulating foam. You can buy it in the same thickness as your plywood for perfect match deck templating. Here's how: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bq1GA406s9c

I have been promising to post how I made my deck template for a while, now. So, sorry to anyone who wasn't able to wait for this post. It also isn't polished and edited like my usual videos... I blame Windows 7 for not including Windows Movie Maker anymore :(

As always, feel free to ask any questions and I'll try to clarify any odd bits I may have skipped in the video.

Great tutorial. It is a good idea. I have always used a different method. I use craft paper. Before cutting the deck out I lay the craft paper out, tape the seams in the paper and cut out the edges with a razor knife. Once it is cut it gets rolled up until it is time to cut the plywood. I lay the sheets of plywood out, lay the template on top of it and trace it out and cut about 3/16 outside of the lines then trim to fit.

HAH! Yep, it's me! I cut out an intro where I mentioned it was 95F and I was sweating buckets. If you listen carefully you can probably hear the sweat drips every time I lean over. Apparently I need a cameraman and a pretty girl with a fig leaf to fan me.. oh and a grape girl :)

Once those three arrive, I'll make videos full time ;)

Awsome videos!

Instead of just throwing the foam away, I was wondering if you could just trim it down and attach to the bottom side of the encapuslated deck with some PL Premo? I'm sure it would be a pain with those with more then one stringer but at least you're not wasting money.

buddy, you are hilarious! Your vid was like dorf on deck building:D Heres how not to make a template and once done, here is how to use a not good template anyhow! Love it. I thought you were going to show us a foolproof way of ding it not the winging it approach that the vast majority of us would use without a tutorial. Its nice to see that others are human as well. Thanks man, made my day. Maybe I will take video of me screwing up my template as well;)

Wish I were closer to you, that way I could give you a hand when you need it, its sad that most of us do this work all by ourselves:(

Maybe you'll start a movement, and restoration threads here will be videos? The future is bright!

Strong work!
