Hello I have an OMC 5.8 and am looking to change my fuel filter now. I have no idea how long the damn thing has been on there but I do know I was using fuel in the boat that sat for well over a year, but since drained my fuel tank. My fuel filter is easily accesible so I can i just remove and replace it? I am concerned that fuel from the tank will begin flowing into my bilge if I just remove the filter.

EFI or CARB? on a carb youll have some in the line come out but it will not start draining. disconnect batteries make sure your in awell ventilated area, have rags ready for cleanup. i use my kids diper to unscrew the filter anything that comes out diper absorbs.;) on EFI relieve pressure b4 disconnecting any part of fuel system.

As long as the filter is above the level of the tank, I don't see why you would have a problem. Besides that, the spring loaded anti siphon valve at the tank would prevent fuel from draining out too. You don't have to worry about de pressurizing an EFI system, that is all after the filter.

Well I have a four winns vista 245 and am actually not sure where my gas tank is. I can see the fill line goes into the wall behind the bilge and the flow line comes from the same area so I can only assume it is hidden behind there. I have no idea how to even access it. The fuel line is pretty low in the bilge so I would have to say that my tank is mounted above it.

disconnect the battery and have a fire extinguisher handy, better to be very safe than very sorry. Good Luck!
