After wasting a ton of time trying to start my volvo I at a dead end. I've set the timing (static), replaced/set points, cleaned the cap, new plugs and coil. Nothing has helped. Compression is 170-175lbs in each cylinder. I've hooked the fuel pump to a fresh tank, and even tried a shot of starting fluid.

I just got the boat, and had it run on land. It was a pain to start, but had a bad battery at the time. The timing belt was changed, but could it being off a tooth cause this? How do I check that. (BTW. I'm losing faith in Seloc manuals!)

BTW.. Shouldn't the AQ131C have two carbs?

If you're not sure about the timing belt, you should double check it.

Only one carb on the 131.

Search the theads for a link to the OEM manual from Don S. I know they're out there.

Let us know how it goes.

Re: no start on Volvo AQ131C

After letting it sit for a bit I tried it again. It sputtered, but wouldn't start. Next chance I get I'll check the belt.

I'm not sure what else it could be. One question I have is the wiring to the distributor. There is a purple wire going to the point, and a grey one that isn't connected any where (just sitting next to the distributor. My manual doesn't tell me much about them. Shouldn't the purple(dark red) be coming from the positive side of the coil?

The wire from the dist. goes on the - along with the grey wire (Tach).

You should have a purple on the + side.
