wow, he rebuilt the carb but didn't even check the timing? I'm glad its running good now, but I wouldn't take it back to him again.

Yeah, I guess. But like you said, I'm just happy the problem is fixed!

Good to hear... btw. have you noticed that every 2-3 posts overheating subject is raised? THat is sooooo... common that not even funny, that's why makes me believe that heat itself not a primary issue... usually something else. Glad you fixed it. You like the boat now? No regrets?

You do realize that the timing was not your overheating issue...if you ever had one. It is very normal for the two risers to have quite a difference in temperature. The reason is that the thermostat housing cannot regulate the amount of water sent to each manifold/riser.

I would still replace the impeller if you have no idea how old it is.

Here's an easy thing to check. Pull off the hoses at your thermostat housing and look inside with a flashlight. Look for black rubber pieces. I had the exact problem you're describing. Port exhaust manifold at 200F; starboard at 160F.
Turned out to be old impeller pieces blocking water flow from the impeller to the thermostat housing (and bypass lines).
