Hello All,

I am a newbie to boating. Looking to get a starter boat that would be good for the family and taking the kids fishing, tubing, waterskiing on small local lakes.

I had been looking at a couple of older bayliners but heard those could be a nightmare?

I have heard good things about Glastron and have seen some good comments about them on this forum - but those had evinrude outboards.

The one I'm looking at is a 1984 with a 3.8 L OMC outdrive.
Here are a couple of pics of the one I'm looking at:

If you could be kind enough - looking for some input. The asking price is $3900. What is your opinion on this year of Glastron and the type of Engine? What is a boat like this worth? Also can a swimming ladder and Bimini top be purchased for these?

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Scott

It's an OMC stringer drive. Parts hard to find, & pricey as hell. OMC is kaput, has been for years. How's your bank account? You'll need it when that drive breaks, & it will. My advice? Run away & save yourself a lot of headaches. Find a boat powered by Merc {not a 470} or Volvo.

To echo what sea_wolf said.....for I/O's stick we Mercruiser or Volvo. The one exception being the Merc 470 (sometimes went by other names) which was a 3.7L 170HP 4 cyl and was problematic. For outboards anything but Chrysler/Force is fine. We just don't want you to unintentionally and unknowingly buy a boat with an obsolete, unsupported powerplant for your first boat. Good luck with your search.
