I have a 1987 OMC Cobra with a 305 GM. The engine has terrible compression so I'm due for a new one or a rebuild. My coworker has a 1977 350 in a truck that he's parting out. The engine is in relatively good condition and I can have it in exchange for some work. My question is, will all of my bolt ons be compatible and do I need to get a new flywheel for the 350? If I do need a new flywheel where do I get one?

it all depends on the style of crank shaft you have, one piece rear main seal flywheels will not fit a 77 block, you need a same diameter flywheel ot the old style,, the triangle coupler from the 87 should work,it bolts to the same holes as the pressure plate in automotive use,use the 305 carb but re jet the secondarys, brass frost plugs, marine spec head gaskets if raw warer cooled, everything else swaps over, good luck:)

Yup! New flywheel. The '77 has a two piece rear main seal.

The flywheel is a standard transmissiopn flywheel( might find one in a junkyard). You can use either the 12" or 14" flywheel. You have to match the starter nose casting bolt pattern to the flywheel size. Off-set is 14".

I would also swap the circulation pump off the 305. It would be (should be) a marine unit. SS shaft, straight veins etc.

The dipstick is on the same side as my 305 (port side). Maybe this truck engine isn't a 77.

So I can use an automotive flywheel for a standard transmission?
