I have a 73 merc 140 - looking for a bit of help.
Could anyone walk me through how to set the timing on this baby. Trying to understand with the seloc service manual is frustrating. If anyone could break it down into easier to understand steps I would be very grateful. I will purchase the timing light later today to get this done.

There is nothing to it. With the engine at idle, loosen the distributor lock bolt, turn the distributor one way or the other till the proper timing mark lines up on the vibration dampner. Tighten the distributor bolt and recheck.

Then, go up to the Adults only sticky at the top of the forum and download the OEM manual for your engine.
