I have problem with starting Johnson 1974 6HP
I changed two new spark plugs and gaps
I rebuilt the carbs three times and clean and everything
Check the floater and speed needle all look fine

When it started and it died
Sometime it start and ran 10 seconds and it died

I checked both has sparks
Just wonder what else to check
If the coil bad I should not have a sparks

Is the slow speed jet set properly? See if you can squirt some fuel mix in the carb and see if it will run, if so you still have a carb problem.

Did you use a carb Kit? If not, get one. Make sure you remove the soft plug and clean out the tiny openings with a wire. These feed fuel at idle and it will not run long if they are blocked.

Had to do this on my 6hp and same problem on the 9.5 I just fixed today.

Also check fuel pump operation. remove fuel line at carb. pull rope a few times. Fuel should pulse out of the line.

I checked the fuel pump today and no gas pulse out
I removed the fuel pump all four crews off the FUEL PUMP ASSY.
Now there are two springs inside popped out (stupid of me)

Now I need the diagram to put it back
I checked the Johnson Evinrude parts site they don't have anything that show the FUEL PUMP ASSY. apart, they sell the complete FUEL PUMP ASSY.

Would you know anyone has this FUEL PUMP ASSY. reinstall procedure

Thanks

Thanks crxess,

Looks like the last owner took this apart before and it is missing 1 Air-dome Support and 1 Air dome spring

I bought the engine for $50 dollars and now another $50 for this fuel pump assembly and $20 for the prop

Hopefully that all there is, I will try the boat junk yard may be they have a used one

Thanks for all the help

Good luck on the project. Even if you finish with $200 invested and it runs solid, you will be well ahead. They go on ebay for 250+ and always need some service work.

Most expensive investment is props. Watch out for rocks!
