I have a 20ft Bass Buggy Pontoon and I would like to remove the boat from the trailer to do some maintence such as replace the bungs, and do a little sanding and paint touch up. I figure the work will take 6 to 8 hours.
Any suggestions on removing the boat other than taking it to the lake and floating it off?

Re: Trailer Repair

easiest is to pay to dock it over the weekend. then you can do the job correctly and not rush, also good time to do bearings.

All I did was jack up one side using a floor jack and some wood (like a t shape) just enough too replace bunks

I used my hydraulic engine lift to raise mine up. I put a spreader bar between the front eyes welded on the logs & attached a chain to the eye & lifted it straight up with no problems at all. The purpose of the spreader bar was so the logs did not pull togther when I lifted the pontoon.

If I might ask, why would you replace the bungs?

Do you mean plugs, the bung is what the plug goes in and is welded to the tube at any rate neither should ever need replaced unless they are damaged.

That would make alot more sense, yes you need to change bunks now and then.

People are told they need to do some odd things, just trying to save him some trouble.

Re: Trailer Repair

One of the bunk was bad on the pontoon I bought this summer - I bought some slicks from Bass Pro and a couple of treated 2x4s. Put the boat in the water, swapped out the bunk - put the slicks on it - makes it easier to launch and take out. Maybe an hour, tops.
