Prop # confusion?

This is in regards to Merc Prop Part # 48-49634-21. I googled the number and came up with two different strongly stated diameters. One was 13 1/2 inch and the other was 15 1/4 inch. Anyone know how to verify?

I also came up with the Merc #48-79576A4 21p for a 15 1/4 inch prop.

Both of these numbers are supposed to be for 15 spline shafts.

This question is in regards to finding a 15 1/4 x 21p prop for a 1976-78 Merc 888 and or 898 1.50:1 ratio Merc 1 outdrive. This is the prop the Merc manual calls for for the stated model for boats in the 17'-19' size and between 2100 and 3100 lbs.

Re: Prop # confusion?

....Wize,it is a 15 1/4 x 21 Merury Blak Max

I saw that and emailed him. No response yet. The # in the ad is the 48-79576A4 21p. I was fairly certain that was a 15 1/4 dia prop.

It was the first number I listed (48-49634-21) that I saw the conflicting diameters on. I actually have one of them. It is old and beat up w/ some blade distortion and it only measures about the 13 1/2 inch range. I'm just wondering if it started out as a 15 1/4 or if the blades had gotten shaved down after a repair or so.

I looked for it for you and I saw the same things you did, some showed 13 1/4", some 14 1/4 and some 15 1/4", they ran the gamut of diamters. :confused:

Yeah, bummer! You wouldn't think it should be that difficult. You would also think that with all these props for sale on iboats, they would have dimensions that are listed in the Merc Manual Selection chart.:mad:

Thanks for lookin' hw!

Re: Prop # confusion?

Hello;

Did you say you were looking for a prop for an old 888/898 set-up ?

I have an old 1975 Apollo 19-foot (heavy) with the 888 set-up and with a Michigan Wheel 17-pitch it was too much prop according to the max rpm.

I will be checking back to see what is recommended.

PS. I just bought a new Solas Amita 4 - blade 14.75 x 15-pitch from Iboats. Problem is it is so pretty I haven't installed it .... I just stare at it :rolleyes:
