Re: Lake Mary AZ

...for smaller crafts, canoes and inflatables a great lake! its a casual whispering pine atmosphere that lends itself to more of a fishing crowd than a run about scene. the lake can get sloppy if winds kick up and the water very murky. it does have a nice launch at two locations. the surroundings are very picturesque. camp at pine grove or upper lake mary campgrounds and you'll be within 10 minutes to water fun.

cheers

Re: Lake Mary AZ

I have camped there, but I did not bring my boat. Judging by the topography surrounding the lake it looks to be a shallow lake. Since I have not been on the lake I cannot verify the depth, but it just has that shallow look. I would be careful that you don't destroy your prop and lower unit. It is a beutiful lake.

If you are coming from Phoenix, then spend an extra 100 minutes in the car and keep going to Powell. By the time you get to the Lake Mary exit on I17 the worst of the steep climbs are behind you. From Flagstaff it is an easy cruise into Page and Lake Powell. The desire to go to Powell is the primary reason I have not boated at Lake Mary.

... you could not have recommended a more stark contrast. sorrta like asking hows the food at local diner and you tell him for a few hundred dollars more you can fine dine at Club Med. Powell & Lake Mary have nothing in common.

Re: Lake Mary AZ

just got home from flagstaff yesterday, son lives there.
the canyon, little colorado, snowbowl, the canyon caverns, wupatki, sunset crater, sedona and even got a chance to talk to a couple of rattle snakes.
the hopi ruins were amazing.
close to n.m. border hit something in the road while going by two trucks and one just behind us.
cut 3 tires, blew one, bent the drive shaft, ripped a hole in the floor pan under the drivers seat about 8"x3", bent the gas tank plus a bunch of bent spots in the floor pan.
changed the flat then limped in about 30 mph to gallup.
hit walmart and got all new tires.
the yard in albuquerque charged us $200 for an 07 drive shaft including shipping.
gallup transmission put it in for us and checked the car over to make sure it was safe enough to get us home.
gallup transmission didn't charge us anything at all and told us good luck and god bless.
we did give the mechanic $40 and will be sending them something for appreciation.
they are the best in the world in my book.
sorry i know nothing about the lake, take care.

Re: Lake Mary AZ

Thanks for the Replies.

Ok I went to visit Lake Mary and did some kayaking. There were several small deep V ski boats and Flat bottom fishing boats. Even some wave runners. Nice lake and very scenic. It was shallow in some area's so you have to pay attention to the buoys. I couldn't tell the depth of the water but it appears you have to stay pretty much out in the middle if you are pulling tubes or skiers.

I think I will just plan on using this lake for Kayaks and let the kids play on the shore. I have plenty of lakes in the PHX area to do some heavy boating.

alumi numb sorry for the bad luck.

also and thanks.
the best we can do is to say clothes, what looked like plastic pieces, and to me the large chunk looked like a motorcycle engine.
shortly after we pulled off an az. patrol officer stopped and pulled the large chunk from the road plus some of the other stuff.
the large object was heavy as he had trouble moving it.
figured he would come up to see if all was ok but didn't.
i thought maybe a truck took down a biker but the police would have made a much bigger thing out of it if that were the case.
the blown tire had a chunk of aluminum in it about 1/8"x2" or so.
we called and emailed the az. state and they had a report of debri in the road but that was all we got.
there was nothing we could do at the time, just came over this rise and there was all this stuff.
there was a ravine to the left and could not go there so that was it.
not good at posting pics but will once i get a handle on it.
someone was looking out for us that's for sure and we have thanked him a time or two.
off subject i know so if i say anymore will move it.

There's really nothing north of Roosevelt thats really suitable for good boating until you get to Powell. I grew up south of Lake Mary in Happy Jack. Spent my whole life fishing all the lakes around there. Great fishing just not much for boating. Even when the Upper was full you could only ski one way, then you had to get back in the boat and start over.

Lake Mary would be Perfect for your Fishing boat. Kayaking was fun on the lake and all my Kayaking was done in the now wake Zone.

Lion your comments kind of ends the search for a Ski Lake in northern area between Payson and Flagstaff. We keep our RV Trailer at Happy Jack Lodge in the Summer and was wishing I could have a ski boat up there as well. Maybe I should just stick to Kayaking the small lakes up north and have a ski boat to use in the lakes in the valley.

Thanks for your comments.

Re: Lake Mary AZ

Lived at the "Lodge" for a number of years until we got a house. It was still a logging camp then. Lived up in the small houses that are the rentals now. The main lodge was the mechanic shop where my dad worked. Times were good then. Us kids could take a 22 or a fishing pole and be gone all day without a worry from anyone. My parents are still in the area and we still do alot of fishing around there.

My grandfather pretty well stocked every stock tank around there with cats for us kids to fish.

Thanks for the Piece of History of Happy Jack Lodge. We really like it there.

It's going to start getting cold up there towards the end of october and that is when we take our trailer down to the valley.
