I am pulling the king cobra transom and putting on a Merc Alpha. The merc has a rubber seal that goes inside the outer plate.
Do I need a cork gasket too?
Also, should I use some sealant like bellows sealant on the seal between the plat and boat?
Last Q, Can I assemble the transom plae with the gimbal bearing bellows and cables then install or should I put the plate on then install the goodies?

I used a fine layer of RTV on my transom seal. I think it's can go on completely "dry" though. I wouldn't use anything else unless Merc suggests it.

I also sanded and epoxy sealed the exposed wood in the transom hole. You also mit do the same in the bilge drain. The boat builders don't do a very good job here....they're just trying to "get it out the door" as quick as possible!!

Mine was completely together when I bolted it on. All I had to do after that was bolt the drive to the gimbal.

Rick
