i have a Mariner 20hp 2-cycle, that will start with no issues, run for about 4 minutes then stall (due to lack of fuel) - after it stalls, you can pump more fuel and it starts - so far i have rebuilt and adjusted the carb, including new fuel and primer pumps (2x's - once by an auto mechanic), replaced the hose and tank with a known "working" setup from another engine - no leaks have been found - any ideas what i can look at next? - the mechanic said i need a new carb. - any help would be appreciated....

Re: Mariner 20hp stalls after 4 mins.-no fuel

similar problem happened to me ...did you adjust the float level ?

my 9.8 was running very lean, but still running ... I couldn't idle down too quickly without it clunking out and then I had to pump it full every time just to get it to start and have the throttle almost wide open and choke engaged to keep it running after start-up until way...

I completely overlooked that adjustment when i took the carb off the first time and cleaned it out ...

Mine was off an 1/8 of an inch and once I reset it back to where it should have been, that along with a simple idle screw adjustment, fixed the lean problem immediately ...

fires and runs like new ...

yes the float level was checked - last nite i took a clear hose attached one end to the tank and other to the fuel filter, started the engine, watched the hose for air or flow-back, neither occurred as the engine began to shutdown (again, sounds and acts as if it's out of gas) - the filter was still full and the fuel "pump-bulb" was hard....does not make sense???
