Hey guys. I have started a restoration of a 1963 Starcraft 17' Permier. The boat had been stored outside for ~15 years so needless to say the deck, transom, and stringers are shot.
I have been reading a lot of good info on the boards but am wondering if anyone has any idea how many stringers there are on this boat. I would guess 3 that run from the bow to the stern and 3 connectors that run port to starboard. I am thrown off by what I have found after removing most of the deck though. The Stringers have glass layed over them in a wavy pattern with 5 "humps", the inner 3 of which are solid. Check out the attached pictures to take a look. The outer two don't seem to have stringers in them, but I can't grasp why they would have done it this way if not.
I am also wondering if anyone knows what the best way to get the cap off would be. I am assuming that it would be pretty tough to do the transom (and deck for that matter) without pulling the cap.
I plan to cut the stringers out tomorrow (hopefully I will get most of the way done). I will keep updating my progress. Thanks in advance for all of your input as this would be out of my realm without it.
P.S. I will eventually need some suggestions on what type of wood to use for stringers and deck and also what type of resin and where to buy but I plan to do some more research before that time comes.
