Gentlemen -
I own a 1972 6hp johnson. Starts on the first or second pull everytime (even after sitting over the winter) and purrs like none other.
Not long ago the engine started making a loud 'clicking' noise:
1. When shifting into forward gear, the motor will sometimes remain in neutral. If you shift back to neutral and then back to forward, the gear wil engage. However, once you accelerate it makes a loud clicking noise.
2. The 'cruise control' on the throttle arm is broken. If you take your hand off the throttle grip it will quickly decelerate and kill the motor.
Does anyone know what this is a symptom of? I don't know if it wil be a costly repair or not. Please give me your thoughts and advice. Your wisdom is greatly appreciated!!!
Thank you,
Vic
