Hello,

Please take a look at this short video clip. This is my '99 Johnson 115 that stalls sometimes at idle. It happens both in and out of gear. Lots of fun when you are trying to dock and it stalls without warning.

It stalls suddenly out of nowhere like someone turning of a light. You will notice it doesn't start to bog and die down as if it was starving for fuel. It seems to happen more when it is hot. The engine is very well maintained. I hope someone has seen this happen before and can tell me what is wrong.

Thank you...

Uh oh, this can't be a good sign! No one has any ideas?

I will tell you that the engine has been very well maintained. I did a link and sync with the OMC analyzer recently and that did not help the problem. The engine has a newer power pack and VRO. The carbs were also rebuilt in the past year.

Compression and spark gap test it.
Try a timing light to see if its dropping spark.

Does anyone know any electrical trouble spots on these engines?

I am starting to think it is an electrical problem since it suddenly shuts off as if an electrical connection momentarily comes lose. I plan on taking apart a number of the connectors and cleaning them then putting on some dielectric grease.

Are there any connectors prone to corrosion or loosened connections?
