Interior trim ?

I have a '74 Glastron that has side panels attached using a metal female plug inserted into the plywood and when the plywood is coverd with vilyl the panel is screwed from the inside of the gnnwhale with a threded screw so ther is no fastener showing on the outside like when you insert a screw through the panel and attach it then use a screw cap to cover the screw head. I can't seem to find a name or source for these metal plugs.

It sounds to me like you talking about a threaded insert. Check any hardware store, there are different types. Hoped this helped.
