I have a Honda BF2D 4-cycle outboard about 10 years old. Has always run well. Recently after sitting idle on the boat for 2 months, it appeared to be seized up--couldn't pull the starter cord. I removed the spark plug, oiled the cylinder thoroughly, and freed it by rocking the crankshaft back and forth with a socket wrench. It felt like there was a rough spot as the piston moved up and down, which gradually smoothed out. Now it runs, but it sprays oil through the breather tube into the air intake. Compression is OK. Oil level is normal at middle of the sight glass, but declines as oil sprays out the breather tube. Why is it doing this?

A faulty intake valve seal comes to mind and is consistant with this set of circumstances. The problem is it will cost more to replace the seal than the engine is worth. You're call.Good luck.
