Have a 93' Rinker w/ Mercruiser IO. Power trim/pump quit working when trying to raise the motor, pump works fine when lowering the unit. Originally thought it was the switch or a short in the control, since it used to work half of the time (now doesn't lift at all- just clicks when switch is pressed). Switch and controls good. Didn't think it was the solenoid since you could here it clicking, but checked solenoid anyway and it also is not the problem. Also, every once in a blue moon you can here the pump try to run for a second, but then nothing but the sound of the solenoid clicking. Any ideas what to look for next?
p.s. no sign of fluids/leaks in water or motor compartment

solenoid--Just because its clicking, doesn't mean its good. The clicking means the switch at the controls are good. The fact that the pump runs in the other direction confirms the pump is good. All the facts you state point to the solenoid. You need to confirm this by getting a jumper wire and bypass the relay/solenoid--wire diagram will help. The relay is a common failure and cheap and easy to replace.

Re: Power trim only works down not up

That's what I originally thought, and I actually did replace the old solenoid with a new one. Is there a chance that the new one was bad from the start. I only second guessed since the new one responded the same as the old one. I will try to bypass the relay/solenoid as you said to check the new one. Any other suggestions I could take with me to try? The boat is at a marina and not at my home.

Does the trailer button raise it? If it does it?s the trim limit switch, very common problem. If you make that bypass and you can get it to raise, it?s almost guaranteed to be the trim limit switch.

If it was the limit switch, the relay would not click. In the original post, you mention, it worked half the time. This is another symptom of a failing relay. After you jump the relay and confirm it works in the up direction, try feeding direct 12V from the batt to the relay(smaller terminals, positive side+)--I bet it will work. Just be careful!! This will confirm what I now suspect, that you need to clean the terminals and grounds and connections

I want to say that you will hear a click, but it has been a while since I dealt with that issue. Either way, we are just helping narrow down what it might be.

Thanks, I will try both ways(Never used the trailer button). This will be her first time out of water since I have owned her. Is replacing the switch a big deal while in the water... or would you suggest getting her out first?

If the wires to the limit switch are in good shape the repair is easy. If the wires are corroded, the repair is almost not worth it. It will be better for you if it?s not the limit switch for that reason. Unfortunately like I said, it?s a common problem and most likely your issue.
Good luck.

Re: Power trim only works down not up

Back again, wasn't able to get back out to the boat till just now. Checked the solenoids again (both good). Wasn't sure what the solenoid relay switch ment since they are all technically switches, but was able to pull up a wiring diagram of a system pretty close to what I have that called the "relay" a 110 amp fuse (which is also a relay/switch of sorts). The fuse indeed was bad. I am having trouble finding a replacement "fuse" since it is refurred to by many names. I was however able to find a mercury 90 amp fuse that looks like the original. If anybody can find the 110 amp, please let me know. Hope this is the fix for this problem, let you know when I get the correct fuse installed. Thanks

Found the fuse. For anyone interested just google 88-79023A10 110 fuse. Some refer to it as a 110 amp fuse assembly. Going to order it online (cheapest found for about $20) Let you know how it all works out. Wish me luck.
